Mfantsipim School wins 2014 National Science & Maths Quiz



Mfantsipim School have been adjudged winners of the 2014 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz after beating Ghana Secondary Technical School and St. Francis Xavier Jr. Seminary in the final round of the competition.

This is the second time the school has won the competition after winning its first in 1999.

The competition which was held at the R.S. Amegashie auditorium, University of Ghana ended with the following results;
Mfantsipim School – 55
Ghana Secondary Technical School – 41
St. Francis Xavier Jr. Seminary – 28

For placing first in the finals, Mfantsipim School received GHC 40,000, while their teachers and contestants received GHC 5,000 each.

Ghana Secondary Technical School took home GHC 25,000 for placing second and their teachers and contestants received GHC 2,500 each.

St. Francis Xavier Jr. Seminary, who placed third, were presented with GHC 15,000 with their teachers and contestants receiving GHC 2,000 each.

The National Science and Maths Quiz is a competition that seeks to promote the study of the Maths and Science at the Senior High School level in the country.

Speaking at the event, President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and Headmaster of Accra Academy, Mr. Samuel Ofori Adjei, called on government to support the promotion of Science and Maths to help in national development.

“We hope those who matter are listening, that this programme has something to offer the country and is the basis upon which future scientists would be built,” he said.
