Confusion at NDC elections; EC official whisked away



There was confusion at the National Democratic Congress National Executive elections held in the Ashanti Region, Saturday.

Vote counting and declaration for the position Deputy National Youth Organiser position was suspended as a result.

Incumbent National Youth Organiser Ludwig Hlordze was handed a shock defeat in an election that would later turn chaotic.

Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor reported that the confusion was triggered by demands for recounting of the Deputy National Youth organizer position.

Angry supporters of some candidates reportedly rained insults, especially on the Electoral Commission officers supervising the election.

One of them, Paul Boateng had to be whisked away by eight armed police personnel, Donkor reported.

The ballot boxes were also sent to an unknown destination.

When contacted later Sunday, Paul Boateng would not give any information as to the outcome of the election.

There were reports later that results of the deputy national organizer position had been declared by the Chairman of the Legal and Constitution Affairs Ken Dzirasah, an allegation Mr Dzirasah has vehemently denied.

The Director of elections of the party has also meanwhile denied any such report.

A statement issued, Sunday said it is the sole responsibility of the EC officials to declare the results and not the party officials.

It is not clear yet who won the Deputy Youth Organiser position but the incumbent National Youth Organiser has been dethroned in the disputed elections.

Sidii Abubakar Musah polled an overwhelming 382 votes to beat the incumbent Ludwig Hlordze who could only manage a 196 votes.

The elections also saw Abubakar Mutiu polling 89 votes with Price Kassim and Paa Kwesi all polling seven and four votes respectively.

The party is getting ready for its Congress on December 20 in the Ashanti Region.
