The Ga Traditional Council has blamed the June 3 fire and flooding disaster on the Yvonne Nelson – organised #Dumsormuststop vigil.
Over 150 people died from a fire, which razed the GOIL filling station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, amidst heavy rains.
Many factors have been adduced as the cause of the disaster including city authorities’ negligence on enforcement of building regulations.
The Ga Traditional Council however is pointing accusing fingers at actress Yvonne Nelson and other celebrities who organised a well patronised vigil dubbed #Dumsormuststop vigil to express their displeasure about the worsening power crisis in the country.
This was after the Ga Traditional Council had warned the celebrities to suspend the vigil, because of a ban on drumming and noise making in parts of Accra at the time.
The celebrities defied their warning after they got the green light from the La Traditional Council who said the location of the vigil was rather in their jurisdiction – they had not started observing the ban yet.
At a press conference held on Thursday, President of the Council, Nii Dodoo Tackie said “That and many other forbiden acts” contributed to the disaster.

Nii Dodoo Tackie also listed a number of national disasters including May 9, which he said occurred because of the failure to respect the ban on drumming and noise making.
He insisted that supporters of the Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko disrespected the gods by flouting the ban, hence the May 9 disaster which saw hundreds of Ghanaians killed at the Accra Sports stadium.
