According to Efya, This Is Why Female Acts Don’t Get Nominated for International Awards like BET and MAMA

EFYA in a latest interview with Peace FM has revealed artists need connections to get nominated for international awards.

She said;

“When it comes to music in Africa right now, I believe that there are different levels to it and even though we have amazing work here and gradually entering the African markets. I think the reason why we don’t get nominations is because sometimes we don’t have the right connections. Sometimes it’s really about politics and whom you know. So if you know somebody who is in there, may be that person is able to push you. But sometimes you to have the numbers and it depend on your numbers.

“When they are checking you out; they check how many numbers you have when they go to your YouTube but I think the level on which I am now because I got to go for the World Music Awards, I was the first female from Ghana that represented and I know that will open doors for the others but I think if we still keep to the hard work, those awards won’t be far from our reach.
“I just think the competition is tight so we just need to do more so we can get to that level. There is a lot involved but we have a lot of talent but it depends on how the talent is pushed, financially, on radio, TV streets and your visibility. It’s a lot of things that comes to play.

“I think Nigerians have the numbers and they sell well and they get to push their music more than we do because you travel to the Francophone countries and the Nigerian music is playing and it might be because they have an amazing PR who go hard for the artist.”
