"Goodman AMC's Ghana Wealth Report is pure fiction" – Finatrade boss

A list of richest people in Ghana making rounds in the media has been rubbished as “pure fiction” by the man named as the 4thwealthiest man in Ghana, Nabil Edmond Mourkazel.

The businessman and CEO of Finatrade Company Ltd says he is very displeased that the Goodman AMC which compiled the list never contacted him or anybody directly. He has branded the list as “very good example of irresponsible journalism”.

The list claimed that Nabil Edmond Mourkazel is worth $900million from his trade in commodities.

The list of 80 richest people in Ghana featured three persons it described as billionaires and 77 others it claimed are millionaires. It named Charles Ampofo who is Chairman and CEO of oil and gas company Kampac International as the richest man with an estimated net worth of $1.46billion.

The report also claimed that the 80 wealthiest control 6.4% of Ghana's GDP and have a combined wealth of $29.3billion.

According to Goodman AMC, it tracked the activities of these individuals for the past two years and looked into the assets, business deals, mergers and acquisitions.

It defined a rich man as one having an Ultra-High-Net-Worth of at least $100million.

But the CEO of Finatrade says he does not take his position in the list as a “compliment”.

Although he is into commodities, he says his fortune does not come from that. The $900million bandied around is “not even close to the truth”.

He declined an invitation by Joy FM's Super Morning Show host, Kojo Yankson, to estimate his wealth describing the attention as “unneeded”. With more words, he tagged the report as “not true”, “wishful thinking”, “dangerous”.

“We are all looking for a low profile life. What’s the public interest in something like that?” he wondered.

Nabil Edmond Mourkazel said his lawyers are exploring their options because the report is capable of having “adverse effect” on him.

He declined to go into details but stressed there can be no positive in being named among the wealthiest in Ghana.
