"Accept me as a son" - Sam George appeals to E T Mensah

Samuel Nartey George has appealed to his opponent E.T Mensah to accept his victory, after official results put him ahead after fierce Ningo-Prampram parliamentary primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

An Electoral Commission official at the constituency after close of polls Sunday, declared the Sam George winner with 4,910 votes, representing 53.4% of total votes cast, while incumbent E.T Mensah managed 2,861.

ET had been seeking a fifth term in Parliament.

In a short acceptance speech after the declaration, Sam George, an NDC Communicator, appealed to the long-serving Ningo-Prampram legislator to accept him as a son "irrespective of what had happened during the elections".

He said he will not let down his supporters, promising to "deliver for the NDC in 2016".

Extending a hand to the veteran legislator, ET Mensah, Sam George said he would welcome him in the "Team JM (John Mahama)" to put the NDC in a strong footing of winning the Ningo-Prampram seat next year.

The elections in Ningo-Prampram were postponed to Sunday after violence and complaints of missing names in the voters register marred the process on Saturday.

On Sunday, voting three hours later than was planned and Sam George who could not find his name in the voters register on Saturday found it on Sunday.

Voting on Sunday was conducted amidst heavy security presence.
