Bolgatanga Senior High School closes down – mother of dead student blames housemaster

Mother of the student whose death sparked riots at the Bolgatanga Senior High School yesterday, is blaming the housemaster for his death.

She is therefore asking that Thomas Apana – the accused housemaster be punished in accordance with the law.

Speaking to Joy News, Effia Doris said she wants justice for her son.

She said her son could not have lied about not feeling well because he had informed her earlier on Sunday about feeling pain in his waist.

Madam Doris said she advised him to go to the hospital the next day but was shocked to hear that he had died.

The distraught mother said all she desires is for the house master to be punished for killing a son she had struggled to cater for.

Emmanuel Bawa died yesterday when he fell after the Assistant House Master allegedly chased him and some other students out of their dormitories for morning assembly.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Upper East Regional Police, Thomas Agbanyo has confirmed that five students have been arrested for vandalizing the schools property.

He said the police will ensure that law and order is maintained.

Authorities of the school have however, closed down the school following rising tension after the students death.

Some students accused the house master, Thomas Apana of refusing to allow them to assist their colleague who fell and sustained head injuries, and died after allegedly being chased for assembly.

Senior House Master of the school, Stephen Awasnaab told Joy News’ Upper East Regional correspondent, Albert Sore that the decision to close the school was arrived at after students burnt down a vehicle belonging to the assistant house master.

He was, however, uncertain when the students will be called back to school.

There was heavy security presence at the school yesterday afternoon following rioting by students who were protesting his death.

The accused house master has, however, denied claims by the students and accused the students of framing him.
