"Negligence caused my dad's death"-Ibrahim Sima's son alleges

Abu Ibrahim, son of the convicted Exopa CEO who died last Thursday while servicing a jail term says his father's death was caused by negligence by prison officers and health officials.

"I am in shock because my dad wasn't a sick person. He was healthy, he was fit. The prison officer himself said it that...anytime Sima wakes up what he does is just exercise", said Abu Ibrahim.

He will not say if the family intends to seek legal redress over Mr Sima's death, but said there was need to "wait and see" since investigations are still ongoing.

Ibrahim Sima, died while serving a fifteen-year jail sentence at the Nsawam Prisons for trafficking narcotics.

He died on Thursday night at the Police Hospital in Accra.

Chief Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, DSP Vitalis Aiyia explained that the convicted CEO was playing football when he collided with the goalkeeper but did not complain of injuries at the time.

Later in the evening he started complaining of pains and was rushed to the Nsawam Government Hospital where his situation deteriorated. He was sent to the Police Hospital where he died.

The PRO was unable to immediately confirm the cause of death but said investigations are still ongoing.

The EXOPA boss was arrested on September 7, 2009 at the Kotoka International Airport when a luggage search revealed tubers of yam in which were embedded narcotic substances.
