PHOTOS: Kumasi Mayor erects 125ft Christmas tree.




The Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu has erected Kumasi’s first ever Christmas tree as part of activities to mark this year’s yuletide.

The tree, which is 125ft in height, was the centre of attention at this year’s Carols night organized by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in Kumasi.

Several high profile personalities attended this year’s Nine Lessons and Carols night which came off at the Kumasi CBD on Friday night. It is organized annually to usher in the Christmas festivities and also celebrate a successful year.

Carols were sung by the Adehyeman Choir and Philharmonic choir all selected from catholic cathedrals with the Kumasi Metropolis.

Some of the guests who graced the event included Lady Julia Osei-Tutu, wife of the Asantehene; Ashanti Regional Minister, Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu; Dr Samuel Sarpong; Ashanti regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye; Brig. Gen. Adu Boampong, General Officer Commanding the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Also in attendance were regional security and Metro Security Council members, business leaders, representatives from the various markets, members of the various transport unions and artisans from Suame in Ghana.

The Nine Lessons were read by DCOP Kofi Boakye, Kojo Bonsu and some representatives of the Ghana Journalist Association and the military.
