#DumsorMustStop: "We can’t conjure rains" -VRA board chair

The board chairman of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Lee Ocran has told celebrities organising a vigil in protest of the erratic power supply in Ghana that government cannot force the rains to fall to fill the Akosombo Dam.

Some Ghanaian celebrities are leading a vigil dubbed #Dumsormuststop tonight to put pressure on the government to address the electricity crisis. According to them, the John Mahama-led administration has been slow in solving the blackout popularly known as ‘dumsor’.

A lot of factors have contributed to the energy crisis including the low level of water in the Akosombo Dam.

Responding to the celebrities on the day of the vigil, the VRA board chairman said until the rains begin nothing can be done about the worsening situation.

“We can’t conjure rains,” the former Ghana ambassador to South Africa told Accra-based Joy FM. “There is nothing anybody in the world can do until the rains come.”

Popular Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie and his colleagues including actress Yvonne Nelson, Van Vicker and Lydia Forson are organising the #Dumsormuststop vigil which kicks off today at 4pm at the Legon bridge near the University of Ghana and ends at the green lawn of the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout at 6.30pm.

Many other celebrities from different fields of the industry have also declared their support for the power campaign.
