Transport fares to go up in June

The Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) after a meeting Wednesday decided to stick to an agreed formula to increase the fares biannually.

Commercial transport operators have been eager to increase fares since the announcement of a 9% increase in petroleum products.

But the General Secretary of the GPRTU Steven Okudzeto told Starr News various components would have to be considered before new transport fares are announced.

“We have all agreed that since there is an agreement between us and the transport ministry to review transport fares biannually, it is better we wait until the first week of June so that we come out with an official notice of increase,” he said.

Petrol is now selling at Gh¢3.33p from the current price of Gh¢3.5p.

Diesel will also be selling at Gh¢3.24 up from the current price of Gh¢2.97 per litre.

LPG is expected to be sold at Gh¢2.88 from the old price of Gh¢2.64.

Unified petroleum and kerosene for mining firms are expected to go up by 4 per cent.

However, premix fuel and RFO will not see any price adjustments.
