West Hills Mall robbers jailed 50 years

Stephen Ayombah and Sulley Jali, the two accused persons, who have been standing trial for allegedly attacking patrons at the Silverbird Cinema in the West Hills Mall at Weija have been slapped with a total of 50 years imprisonment. The two had opened their defense in respect of the case. They both denied attacking and robbing one Frank Owusu, a cinema projectionist at Silver Bird Cinema on May 24, 2015 of his Samsung Galaxy Mega G3 mobile phone valued at $500.They also allegedly attacked one Albert Adomako Mensah.

At an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Justice Francis Obiri, the two vehemently denied the charge of intentionally and unlawfully causing harm to Owusu and Mensah through gunshots. They were charged with robbery. According to the judge, the sentence is to deter others from engaging in such act.

The prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Acheampong told the court that on May 24 this year, at about 1545 hours, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command received a distress call that a gang of armed robbers had invaded the Cinema Centre projection room, where the account office was also located, amidst firing of gunshot within the West Hills Mall at Weija.

DSP Acheampong said the Police moved swiftly to the scene and managed to arrest Ayomba and Jali. A foreign made pistol with 10 rounds of ammunitions, an empty shell and pair of scissors were retrieved from them.
