"I Have No Agenda Against The Media" says Asamoah Gyan as blogger gets arrested




Asamoah Gyan has criticised the conduct of some media practitioners in relation to the rape claims brought against him but insists he has no agenda against journalists.

Gyan has been making the headlines in the last few weeks for different reasons.

While his career at his new club Shanghai SIPG has taken off superbly following his big money move from Al Ain – he has scored 2 goals including 1 on his debut – but personal life has also been placed under the spotlight.


A 22-year-old university student, Sarah Kwabla accused the striker of impregnating her after he allegedly raped her and then refused to acknowledge the pregnancy.

The issue created a media frenzy which appeared to have died down.

Broadcast journalist and Deputy Editor of Razz entertainment newspaper, Osarfo Anthony, was then arrested by the Airport Police after allegedly attempting to extort Ȼ25,000 from Gyan through blackmail.

In a statement released on the player’s website and signed by his manager, Samuel Anim Addo, the player expressed his disappointment over the actions of Osarfo Anthony and other journalists since the story broke out.

“The Management of the Shanghai SIPG ace has had to cause the arrest of a reporter earlier this week for an alleged offence of blackmail and extortion,” the statement said.

“The conduct of the said reporter, considered by the captain of the senior national team, the Black Stars as highly unprofessional is one example of other acts being perpetuated by several others.”

Gyan acknowledged the positive influence the media has has on his career adding that he will “continue to avail himself to any media engagement or interaction through his management whenever deemed necessary.”

“Asamoah Gyan would like to encourage and appreciate the efforts of hardworking media practitioners who set out to do their work objectively and with a high sense of professionalism.”
