First Friday of every month to be declared 'Batakari Day'

The Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) are set to conclude a policy document to declare the first Friday of every month as “Batakari Day.”

This forms part SADA’s plans to expose the culture in the northern part of the country to the local and international community.

It also forms part of a broader policy brief captioned, “The Grass is Greener,” which is to harness resources to improve upon the socio-economic lives of people dwelling within the Savanna Zone of the country.

The “Batakari Day” will be launched at a ceremony to be held at the offices of the World Bank Ghana office on September 4, 2015.

Key among the series of programmes outlined for the month include; Still and Motion Photography Exhibition, an experiential celebration of the people and cultures of the North of Ghana through garment, food, music and dance.

The festival which is a month long exhibition and celebration of the sights, sounds and flavours of Northern Ghana is expected to be replicated across all the regional capitals in the country.

The “Grass is Greener” program is being sponsored by SADA, with support from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre -GIPC and The World Bank Group.
