WAEC Releases WASSCE 2019 Results. Check Your Results Here

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results for the 2018 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). A statement signed by Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, said the Council will soon despatch the results to the schools and candidates are advised to contact their heads of school for their results WAEC said though it is in the process of dispatching the results to the various candidates “those who desire, may access their results at the Council’s website.” The council is alerting members of the public especially candidates to be ware of impostors who promise to change examination results for a fee. Menzgold ordered to shut down trading immediately

The Securities and Exchange Commission has ordered gold trading firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited, to suspend their operations with the public with immediate effect. In a letter dated September 7, SEC said it has thoroughly investigated the activities of Menzgold and has found that, the Nana Appiah Mensah-owned firm does not have the license to trade in gold collectibles from the public. The statement explained that interactions with representatives of Menzgold confirmed to SEC the view that the aspect of Menzgold’s business which involves purchase and deposit of gold collectibles and guaranteed returns is a capital market activity under Act 929 without a valid license issued by SEC which contravenes the law. The statement added that subsequent requests have been made by SEC to Menzgold’s lawyers to furnish SEC with specific detailed information on the operations of the firm.

Pregnant woman and baby die after failure to pay GHC500 'doctor motivation fee

News coming from the Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi is not pleasant. Information reaching us indicate that on Wednesday, 4 July 2018, a 30-year-old pregnant woman died with her unborn baby after the health post refused her entry into the labour ward because her husband could not immediately pay a GHC500 'Doctor Motivation Fee'. Angela Afriyie Agyemang later died at the theatre just as her husband had made available the GHC500 fee for which she had been denied medical attention. Pastor Solomon Lamo Latiff of the House of Faith Ministry in Kumasi, husband to the deceased, said he had taken his wife to the hospital the previous day when she started experiencing labour pangs after her due date exceeded by a week. The decision was made on Saturday by the CAF Disciplinary board. “The following decisions were taken by the CAF Disciplinary board regarding the referees involved,” read the statement. The Ghanaian officials were filmed in a BBC investigative piece by Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas receiving monies to influence football games on June 6 this year. A statement issued and signed by the General Secretary of the association, Mr Joseph Ayita Mensah said: “All referees and assistant referees who appeared in the Anas exposé should not be appointed for any football match“. "Today, I’ll kill my kids and commit suicide" - Joyce Dzidzor Mensah (Former AIDS ambassador)

A former AIDS Ambassador, Joyce Dzidzor Mensah has threatened to commit suicide along with her three adorable kids on Saturday. Joyce Mensah, who courted huge controversy after denouncing her HIV status after five years of leading an HIV/AIDS campaign, said she will go to her hometown where she plans to kill them and kill herself. She is set to grant her last radio interview before moving to her hometown in Peki Dzake in the Volta region of Ghana. “These are my three children. Today is our last day on earth,” she declared in a Facebook post with a family photo of herself and the three children, threatening “Am going to kill them and kill myself”. According to her, the family has suffered a lot of discrimination and humiliation after she came out publicly to tell the world that she was living with HIV/AIDS. Reports reaching us suggest that former Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has died. Mr. Amissah-Arthur is reported to have collapsed at the Air Force Gym early Friday and was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital where he was pronounced dead. More to come

Parliament approves US ‘military base’ deal

Parliament has approved the Ghana-US defence cooperation agreement which seeks to provide a space in the country to host some US military troops. The approval was done by only Majority Members of Parliament because the Minority staged a walkout during the debate on the Floor of the House on Friday night. “This House adopts the report from the joint committee on defense and interior,” the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye said after the approval. Prior to staging the walkout, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu spoke for close to 17 minutes giving a litany of reasons why they believe the agreement should not be ratified by Parliament. He however urged Majority to approve the agreement without them saying “you [the Majority] can cowardly approve the agreement” without the Minority. -citi

President Akufo-Addo to implement Free University after fixing the economy

Nana Addo hinted of plans to make university education universally free after the smooth implementation of the Free Senior High School Program. Speaking in Kyebi as part of his tour of the Eastern Region, he said “I have two things to share with you on education. First the government treasures education and so, we will do everything to make it easily accessible to all children. If God permits and we are able to fix this economy for it to improve, we will even make university education free,” the President stated. He further assured that the ongoing Free SHS policy “will never be cancelled. It is here to stay. It is an irreversible piece of social legislation. When we leave, it will remain.”

ACCRA: Taxify launches with special discount for riders

Competition for Uber  “Accra is an exciting and vibrant market with a majority youth population constantly on the move. Taxify is here to contribute to healthy competition in the market by ensuring that drivers can take more money home driving on our platform and riders can save money at the same time.” Operations Manager of Taxify Ghana, Albert Aryee, said. Court reverses rustication of 22 UCC students; each to get GH¢10k out of the 100k requested

With just a paper left for them to graduate, these 22 students, most of whom were executives of ATL hall were served with rustication letters. The students then sent the case to court. A Cape Coast High Court on Friday ruled in favour of the 22 students. They are to be given GH¢10,000 each as costs. Before Friday’s ruling, the students had secured an ex-parte injunction to write their end-of-semester exams. All but Enock Abeiku Bart-Plange Tawiah were rusticated for two semesters. 2 Kumasi Academy students die 'mysteriously', 3 others hospitalized

Information reaching us indicate at least two first-year students of Kumasi Academy have lost their lives under mysterious circumstances. The others have been hospitalized at the  Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Hospital. School authorities are unclear about the cause of death and ailment. Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah reports Friday the students were rushed to the hospital after they complained of "fever-like conditions" at the school's clinic.

Ghana Revenue Authority to close down Accra Mall over tax debt

Senior Officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on the 29th of November 2017 went to the premises of the Accra Mall to shut down the facility. This action was because owners of the mall have failed to pay taxes to the State. They owe over 2.3million.

Starbow plane crashes: Skids off tarmac

A Starbow aircraft crashed this afternoon at the Kotoka International Airport  The plane skidded off the tarmac and landed on grass, a source at the Airport confirmed to Myjoyonline.com  Officials of Starbow have not been available for comment but the Aviation Minister Cecilia Dapaah will not confirm or deny the accident when Myjoyonline.com spoke to her. She would rather a technical report is issued to explain exactly what happened in order not to create fear and panic. Unconfirmed reports say at least five people have sustained minor injuries and have been rushed to the hospital. Myjoyonline.com cannot immediately confirm same.
