The General Legal Council, GLC, has decided to admit the 499 law students who were denied entry into the Ghana School of Law, according to their lawyer. This was revealed after a crunch meeting between leaders of the aggrieved 499 law students, the Attorney General, and representatives from the General Legal Council on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. The 499 law students were failed in the law entrance exams after a new quota system was initiated by the General Legal Council. After protests from the students including a lawsuit, the Attorney General recommended that the GLC admits the students. Speaking to the media, lawyer for the aggrieved students, Martin Kpebu, said the students are however yet to be informed when their admission will take effect. The Ministry of Roads and Highways has directed the immediate discontinuation of the collection of tolls on all public roads and bridges across the country. This order according to a statement signed by the sector Minister, Kwasi Amoako-Attah is to take effect from Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 12:00am. It follows the announcement by the Finance Ministry of the scrapping of tolls on all public roads. “The Ministry of Roads and Highways hereby directs the cessation of the collection of road and bridge tolls at all locations nationwide.” Police personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) are to be stationed at various toll booths to provide security. In the meantime, the statement has urged motorists to obey the instructions of the security agents. “The motoring public will be advised of further measures in due course”, the release further said. The government, as part of strategies to widen the country’s tax net, has announced an Electronic Transaction Levy. It will be a 1.75 percent charge on all electronic transactions. This fee, according to the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, is to enhance financial inclusion and protect the vulnerable. Transactions covering mobile money payments, bank transfers, merchant payments, and inward remittances will have the levy imposed on them and will be borne by the sender. “After considerable deliberations, the government has decided to place a levy on all electronic transactions to widen the tax net and rope in the informal sector. This shall be known as the “Electronic Transaction Levy or E-Levy”, Ken Ofori-Atta said on Wednesday, during the presentation of the 2020 Budget in parliament. Ghana’s COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 10,074 following the new discharge protocols. The review of discharge protocols covers patients who do not display symptoms of the virus and patients whose symptoms die down during treatment. For patients who are asymptomatic, they are being discharged 14 days after their initial positive test. For symptomatic patients, if they respond to treatment 14 days after testing positive, they are discharged after a further three days without symptoms. According to the government, the change in policy is in line with revised guidelines by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Following new discharge protocols, the service is now counting recoveries and discharges together. Initially, each infected person had a minimum of three tests. The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has outlined a number of Covid-19 safety measures as it prepares for resumption of academic work for its final year students. President Akufo-Addo on Sunday, May 31, in his address to the nation on updates to Ghana’s enhanced response to the coronavirus pandemic, eased the ban on public gathering to among others, allow for the partial resumption of academic activities. The university has thus, expressed its preparedness, indicating that the measures put in place were to avoid the spread of the virus among students, staff and the university community. The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says it has arrested officials of digital payment marketing and promotions firm, Payboy. A statement from EOCO on Friday said Payboy Company Limited does not have the license from either the Bank of Ghana or the Securities and Exchange Commission to perform the services it purports to offer. “The General Public is advised to be circumspect when dealing with companies or individuals if it involves financial commitments,” EOCO cautioned. “Investigations are ongoing,” it added. "Multiple Kuwait returnees tested positive for coronavirus" - Ghana Health Service

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says some of the over 200 Ghanaians who returned from Kuwait over the weekend have tested positive for coronavirus. Director of Public Health at the Service, Dr Badu Sakordie during a press briefing on Thursday said he has been informed that some of the returnees have tested positive but will wait for official confirmation of the exact number. “There are indications that some of them have tested positive. We will follow up and when we have the full report, we will share appropriately,” he said. Prior to this, tests conducted on the returnees by Kuwaiti health officials were negative. The Director of Media and Communications for Operation Covid-19 safety, Osei Bonsu Dickson who revealed this to JoyNews when they arrived in Ghana on Saturday, May 23, however, indicated that another round of tests would be conducted on them. The 24 year-old security man, Bless Amedegbe aka Don Dada Bless, is facing a charge of assault on a public officer as well as False Communication, contrary to Section 76(1) of the Electronic Communication Act, 2008 (Act 775). He instigated the public on social media to burn the house of President Akufo-Addo and also kill police officers enforcing Covid-19 measures has been granted bail in the sum of GHC100,000, with two sureties. Four more cases of Coronavirus confirmed in Ghana

This was announced by the government at a press briefing to update citizens on the outbreak of the Novel 2019 (COVID-19) in the country. The government said three of the cases were recorded in Accra while one other was recorded in the Ashanti Region. #CoronaVirus: Korle Bu records 2 suspected cases

Two foreign nationals on Wednesday reported at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital having developed some symptoms suspected to be  coronavirus . The patients, a Chinese and an Argentine who have been living together in the country for some days, have been isolated at the facility while blood samples taken have been sent to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), for further analysis. Greater Accra Divisional Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr Winifred Baah revealed on the PM Express on JoyNews Wednesday.
