BUY SHARES: MTN Ghana Launches IPO In Ghana

The country’s largest mobile telecom operator, MTN, has launched its initial public offer (IPO) as part of the company’s aim to allow Ghanaians acquire A stake in its highly profitable business – becoming first in the telecommunications industry to place on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE). The launch of the IPO yesterday means that the public can now buy shares in the company at a cost of GH¢0.75 and a minimum of 10 shares per purchase. The shares can be bought at selected banks as well as on MTN mobile money. The 4.6 billion shares being sold out to the public constitute about 35 percent equity of the company. MTN is targeting about GH¢3.5billion from the IPO. The offer, which went live yesterday, is expected to end on July 31, 2018, with all listing formalities closed on September 5, 2018.

CID arrest NDC's Koku Anyidoho over coup comments

Remember Mr Koku Anyidoho? Yeah, The man who went viral after claiming John Mahama was in a comfortable lead in the 2016 elections. He's also the  Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress and has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service after he predicted a civilian coup d’etat to unseat President Akufo-Addo. Mr Koku Anyidoho was picked up by armed policemen at the Press Centre on Tuesday in Accra moments after a press briefing on an intended demonstration over the Ghana-US military defence cooperation agreement. About 16 officers besieged the Press Center to effect the arrest. Koku Anyidoho was escorted on foot to the CID headquarters a few metres away from the press centre. He was accompanied into the facility by the NDC General Secretary Asiedu Nketiah, NDC National Chairman Kofi Portuphy and PNC Chairman Bernard Mornah. Parliament approves US ‘military base’ deal

Parliament has approved the Ghana-US defence cooperation agreement which seeks to provide a space in the country to host some US military troops. The approval was done by only Majority Members of Parliament because the Minority staged a walkout during the debate on the Floor of the House on Friday night. “This House adopts the report from the joint committee on defense and interior,” the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye said after the approval. Prior to staging the walkout, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu spoke for close to 17 minutes giving a litany of reasons why they believe the agreement should not be ratified by Parliament. He however urged Majority to approve the agreement without them saying “you [the Majority] can cowardly approve the agreement” without the Minority. -citi
